How to Play

The game is played by two players positioned on opposite sides of the board. Each player has 15 checkers, either black or white. Backgammon players roll the dice and move the checkers according to the numbers rolled. The main objective is to move all your checkers into your home board. The first player to bear off all their checkers wins the game.

The Backgammon rules may seem easy to follow, right? However, a few additional details can be helpful:

  • Rolling doubles (two of the same number) lets you move four times instead of two. So, if you roll a double 3, you can move one checker 12 points or four different checkers 3 points each.
  • You cannot move a checker to a point already occupied by two or more of your opponent's checkers.
  • If you move a checker to a point with only one of your opponent's checkers (a "blot"), it is hit and sent to the bar. The opponent must bring that checker back onto the board before making other moves.
